Covid Victory Dance

Mncela’s depiction of a township scene with dancing people amid the pandemic exterminating many. In spite of the overcrowding in many a township like Nyanga and  Khayelitsha, many were forced to remain in the streets on level five. Mncela captures the defiance of a fed-up people and also shares with us a people who, despite their circumstances, herewith being women and children who have faced and suffered mostly from the abuse of fathers and husbands but yet continue to celebrate life with a dance. It suffices that Trevor Noah once joked, that in South Africa we do not picket(toyi-toyi) by throwing stones anymore but by gathering and dancing as if we are celebrating.
